Why Choose This Trip?

 

This trip appeals to non-skiers as well as the hard-core skiers, and every level in between. 

 

Zell am See is a picturesque town located on the shore of the Zeller See (Lake Zell) AUSTRIA and is surrounded by the Hohe Tauern mountain range.  We fly direct into Munich then take a short 2 hour private bus ride to the resort.

 

After two years of holding back we are eager for international travel again and Austria is welcoming fully vaccinated US tourists.   Join us for incredible skiing and safe touring around Zell am See Kaprun where we will have access to 408 km of slopes, more than 47 modern ski lifts and lots of optional day tours for non-skiers (and skiers.)

Ski areas are: 

  • Schmittenhohe – perched high above Lake Zell with lifts within easy walking access from our hotel.
  • Maiskogel – where the longest slope is 7KM, over 4 miles!
  • Kitzsteinhorn Glacier – Austria’s first glacier ski resort is legendary.  This glacier area extends up to 3,203 m above sea level. The Kitzsteinhorn is also a renowned hotspot for free riders and freestylers.
  • Also, the recently opened  3K K-onnection offers a continuous cable car connection to facilitate ski-in ski-out from Kaprun to the glacier This tri-cable gondola in Salzburg carries passengers from the Maiskogel straight to the Langwied area on the Kitzsteinhorn.

Created by Audi quattro, Ice Camp is a unique world of ice and snow contained within 3 large igloos.
Skiers can access via pistes of the Kitzsteinhorn to find music, drinks and snacks.   See below.

Equipment Rental

Do you love your own skis but are not comfortable schlepping them on an international trip?  No problem.  Zell-am-See has a wonderful ski rental program where we can rent at any of the local INTERSPORT shops at the ski areas or in the town shop and turn the skis in after skiing each day at one area and then pick up a new pair at the next area. We just wear après-ski and leave them at the shop while skiing (or just wear your ski boots.)

 

Top quality rental equipment is available, and all can be done in advance on line. (We are currently working on the online booking arrangements and discounted rates for SCSC/TSC participants.)

 

 

NON-SKI ACTIVITIES and EXCURSIONS

Shopping, spas, many restaurants and a casino near our hotel will round out the many non-ski activities.  Organized activities: 

MONDAY:    CITY OF SALZBURG EXCURSION - SIGHTSEEING and         SHOPPING
 
 

Depart for Salzburg in early morning. On the way stop at the

Red Bull Hanger 7 museum to see the many aircraft and

cars exhibited there. Proceed to Salzburg for walking tour.

After our tour there will be free time for shopping and additional

sightseeing. At 2:30 PM board the bus for the return trip.
En-route back to Zell am See there will be a visit to the Stiegl                            

Brewery for a Guided Tour, beer tasting and a Souvenir

gift.  Woo-hoo. 

Following the Brewery visit the bus will return to Zell

Am See in the late afternoon.

City of Salzburg

TUESDAY:    KITZBUHEL FOR SKIERS &
KITZBUHEL-KUFSTEIN FOR NON-SKIERS:

 

A great day for both skiers and non-skiers.  Our bus will depart Zell am See hotels in the morning and proceed to Kitzbuhel where skiers and non-skiers will leave the bus.

The skiers will proceed to the cable station to get their lift ticket. The non-skiers will proceed with the guide for a

short tour of Kitzbuhel. After the tour, non-skiers will re-board the bus and travel to Kufstein where the guide will conduct a tour of the Kufstein Fortress. The Kufstein Fortress is the main landmark of Kufstein, a town in Tyrol Austria.  Lunch will be on your own at the Fortress. After lunch there should be time for shopping or more

sightseeing. Afterwards the bus will return

to Kitzbuhel, pick up the skiers and then

return to the Zell am See Hotels.

PRICES PER PERSON:

SKIERS:    $85. (Lift ticket is separate.)

THURSDAY: FULL DAY TOUR TO BURGHAUSEN

Leaving Zell am See by bus the drive will take you just across the border between Austria and Germany to the beautiful city of Burghausen.  It is the largest town in the Altotting district of Oberbayern in Germany. It is situated on the Salzach River, near the border. The Burghausen Castle is the longest castle in Europe (1,043 m) and the longest in the world. 

Your tour will include entrance to the Castle and a short tour of the town.

Highlights of our time within Munich will be the City Tour, the Glockenspiel, Marienplatz, Kaufingerstrasse (the Main pedestrian street lined with shops, bars and restaurants) which ends at the Marienplatz.  Of course, we could also enjoy the Hofbrauhaus, Ratskeller and other famous beer halls. 

 

The Holiday Inn Munich City Center is convenient to the Munich Subway system and is located right above a major station stop.  It is easy to get anywhere from this location and is only 2 stops from Marienplatz. Alternatively, it is a nice, safe 20 minute walk from the hotel.
